What do oatmeal and Jamie Oliver have in common?
I‘m not so good at beginning new things in life. I worry about failing and not meeting standards; I tend to circle projects for a while, observing, and yes, dragging my feet.
Because I know this about myself, I was eager to get my first post for Jamie Oliver published and behind me. I have plenty to say on the subject of kids in the kitchen and, once started, should have no trouble making myself at home in my new digs.
It would have been far too easy to obsess over a topic for that first blog post, so I enlisted Noah to help me come to a quick decision together: Apple Pie Baked Oatmeal. It’s a hot breakfast that we love, and he can prepare it nearly all by himself, so it was perfect for kicking off a series on cooking with family.

I’m an ardent admirer of Jamie’s and have a deep respect for his work. It is an honour to partner with him, even to this small capacity. We share a lot of the same views on whole foods, scratch cooking, and of course, kids in the kitchen.
In other news, we are hunkering down for the homestretch of my cookbook manuscript. We’ve got some time yet, but I can only fit in a few time slots per week when I can work on the book uninterrupted and boy have these past weeks been flying by quickly! I’m giving it a great deal of focus and care. I’m testing a lot of recipes. I’m eating a lot of those recipes.
You may notice in the the next month or two that I’m not around quite as much and that we have the occasional guest contributor and round-up post here on Simple Bites. This frees me up tremendously and makes the process of producing a cookbook actually do-able. Thanks for your patience, as always.

That’s great, congrats! And the oatmeal looks delicious. As far as dragging your feet and having a hard time starting things…that is called HUMAN NATURE. Looks like you’re not struggling with it too much. I’m trying to remember one word for 2014, and that word is DO. I understand.
