June. And just like that summer has arrived. We’ve picked the first sweet cucumbers from the garden, the hens are laying regularly, and watermelon is an acceptable dessert once again. Yippee!
We have a giveaway winner to announce! Congratulations to Jori M who won a copy of The Nourished Kitchen. Jori said:
“We are members of a local organic CSA as a first step to eating in a more traditional way. I would love a comprehensive cookbook like this to help us get started!”
Jori, look for an email from me soon on how to claim your prize. A big thank you to all who entered.
Here’s a short list of what inspired me this week:
- Gluten-free Dutch Baby :: Autumn Makes & Does ~ We all need more Dutch Babies in our mornings.
- Make Your Own Baking Soda And Coconut Oil Toothpaste :: Health Extremist ~ Has anyone tried this? I’d like to transition to something natural.
- Spring Vareniki:: Golubka ~ I can’t stop daydreaming about these scrumptious dumplings.
- 8 Ways to Skewer Kebabs :: Saveur ~ This is information we need for grilling season, folks.
- Weekend cooking, giving thanks, and a recipe for Sweet and Sour Fish :: One Hungry Mama ~ Beautiful post from Stacie on Sunday dinner.
And here’s a snapshot of happenings around the urban homestead from the past week:
Patiently waiting on the first zucchini. The garden has really appreciated the rain we’ve been having.
These vegan chia seed doughnuts from the amazing The Oh She Glows Cookbook made a great power snack last week.
Late afternoon drinks in the garden after a long week. Wish you were here.
20 minutes earlier this rocket was just trash in the recycling bin. Who needs new toys? Not this boy.
Fresh picked rhubarb? Check.
And with that rhubarb we made and loved, loved, these gluten free Rhubarb and Polenta Muffins from Kathryn. Only I used a little all-purpose flour, so technically, they were not GF, but just fine for our family.
Campfires are back. As are lazy afternoons sitting on a log and reading a book.
Summer means watermelon by the plateful – and one slice is always waiting to jump and splat. Uh oh.
Have a beautiful Sunday!
Hi Aimee – It’s a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. Wow! I can’t believe your amazing garden. I’m just getting started today. I love your stories and the spaceship. Have a great day! Lisa
The chia seed donuts look delicious! And love the idea of homemade toothpaste, so unique and delightfully hipster 🙂
Happy Sunday to you too, and I love link posts like this! My favorite was the dumplings.
that weekend is looking gorgeous Aimee! Love those days when they just stretch before you with infinite possibilities (at least it felt that way as a child)
