Weekend links and photos

I hope you’re kicking back a little this weekend and enjoying time with family and friends.

Last weekend was our gardening blitz and deck demolition, so we’re taking this one a little slower. It’s been great to hang poolside with the cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents and catch up. Although, gracious me, my children need a refresher course in pool safety 101.

Thank you for your kind comments and emails on Friday’s brunch post! I so appreciated the encouragement, and am happy you were able to laugh along with us.

Below are a few of my favourite bits and bites from around the web this week:

And don’t miss my latest post for Jamie Oliver:

Spice collection | Simple Bites

Organizing spices actually looks pretty if you stand back and snap a photo.

Clara balloon

Life is more fun with balloons.

apple blossoms

Apple blossoms always bloom for our wedding anniversary and they steal my heart year after year.

Coffee table, The Nesting Place

Currently reading and nodding along to: The Nesting Place: It Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Beautiful. Somehow I think The Nester would be okay with my cluttered coffee table.

staked tomato plant

Repeat after me: Tomatoes are not going to be the boss of us this year. (I’m using 7′ stakes with a metal core this time around.)

pool party

Although my children badly need a refresher course in pool safety, I was happy the sun shone for the first official pool party of the year yesterday at my in-laws.

Urban chickens

Our hens are so plump and fluffy this year! Just look at all the grass they get to feast on, too. They have it good.

farm fresh egg

And Clara and I discovered the very first egg from our pullets. It looks like we’re back in business.

Have a beautiful Sunday!

  1. You have a beautiful homestead! I’m so happy I found your site cause we are on our way to creating our homestead outside Quebec City and it’s wonderful to find a blog from someone relatively local. 🙂

Hi Aimee: I loved all the posts/photo’s on this weekend links. I’m going with your tools for tomato growing this year – I’m not going to let my tomatoes get the better of me this year either! Thanks for all you do. Regards, Lisa

  3. Thanks for the recommendations. Great links. I really enjoyed the spice picture!

  4. Tomatoes are tricky but I love staking mine up. It’s so relaxing to go out into the garden and tend to them as they grow. I can’t wait to get ours in!! Hope you had a nice weekend 🙂

  5. Loved your canning instagram photo!! Wish I could hop over and do some preserving with you!! Thanks for linking to my recipe and I love the waffle iron egg idea… people are waffling all kinds of things these days!
