Savor spring with a recipe round-up

Spring has sprung for most of us, although up here in Quebec we’re still a few weeks away from all the gorgeous local produce that comes with the season. Soon we’ll be eating berries every morning and asparagus at dinner every evening, with a spinach salad at midday.

I’ve been holding out for local berries, but I’m not sure how much longer I’ll last, as luscious berry recipes keep calling to me from places like here and here. My palate is anxious for the bright and tangy flavors of rhubarb. It’s been a long winter.

In anticipation of spring produce, and as inspiration for you Southerners already enjoying a harvest, here is a round-up of my favorite recipes featuring the fruits and vegetables of the season.

  1. I definitely understand the lack of local food right now! I am in Maine. Although, I think that this weekend I will be able to pick some rhubarb to make a rhubarb custard pie – yum. And since that is about the only thing I can pick from my garden right now, I am going with that as being my favorite spring ingredient…although if I could find some asparagus or fiddleheads, I wouldn’t mind 🙂

  2. Spring?! It’s full on summer already down here in Texas.
Asparagus is nearly gone from the stores, but we do have berry season. Rhubarb may be all but unheard of, but we get great local blueberries and blackberries. And Texas peaches will be here soon!

    1. Well I AM blogging from Canada, so spring topics are still relevant around here. *wink*.

No rhubarb? I’m not sure I could swap that for early peaches. Enjoy your berries, though, we won’t see any for another month… C’est la vie!

  3. That’s funny – I was going to make a comment similar to Angela’s. It’s been summer here in Arizona for at least 3 weeks. (I call it summer when the temp hits over 100 three days in a row).

Asparagus is pretty much gone – but bell peppers and avocados are everywhere, and I’ve seen cantaloupes starting to pop up, hooray!

Not that I actually know if it’s bell pepper and avocado season? I just noticed that they’re suddenly cheap at all the stores.

  4. I live in Mexico, en here we plenty of local food al year long (I’m pretty lucky) so I’ll be able to savor these recipes very soon. Thanks!

  5. Very fresh and yummy sounding recipes! For some reason the Spinach Ricotta Shells won’t come up for me, the server times out or can’t find the page. I wonder if it’s just on my end?

        1. It’s working now! My bad, had a little extra code in there.

It’s a great little recipe for spring, if I do say so myself. 🙂 Enjoy!

  6. When asparagus season hit, here in northern California , I ate asparagus everyday for 2 1/2 weeks…now it is raspberries and summer squash everyday. Loving the summer produce!
