Food Blogging for Dummies (giveaway)

I‘m usually not one for reading manuals. There’s a drawer in my home that houses the guides to my blender, food processor, espresso machine and every other small appliance I own, but none of them have been cracked open. It’s embarrassing, but when I bought my first DSLR camera, I ignored the manual.

Something changed when a brand new guidebook showed up at my door. A blogging manual, namely, Food Blogging For Dummies by Kelly Senyei. I met Kelly from Just a Taste at BlogHer Food last May when we rode a bus together to an event.

Food Blogging for Dummies is a hefty manual for virtually every aspect of the craft. I’d be hard pressed to find a colleague who couldn’t glean a few (more like a ton) tips from its 296 pages, no matter how knowledgeable they may be on the subject.

Kelly’s writing reads like a friend briefing you on the latest and greatest in the food blogging scene over a cup of coffee. She’s not preachy and speaks from the perspective someone who has been there.

I believe Kelly has done her homework with FBfD and I appreciate how up the book is extremely up to the minute. It’s also fun to see so many familiar names and blog headers sprinkled throughout the book – including Simple Bites on page 140!

You know, three years ago I wrote a tongue-in-cheek exposé on what goes on behind the scenes of a food blogger. It got picked up by a few major sites, and we all had a laugh because most of it was true. Back then, I wasn’t too serious about food blogging. Few of us were, I dare to say.

However things have changed. Food bloggers are taken much more seriously now – and they take themselves more seriously. I mean, a food blogger wrote the best-selling cookbook of 2011, for Pete’s sake.

The point is, I believe now is a great time to be a food blogger, so if you’re thinking of starting your own, or kicking your current blog into high gear, Kelly’s book is the one for you.

  8. Great giveaway! I am more of a “mommy” blogger than a food blogger, but I have been preoccupied with the changes in our diet recently (no dairy or gluten) and I have been thinking about documenting our journey in whole food cooking more. It is just in the “thought” stage though, so this would be a great help!
