Apple Almond Galette to celebrate my new cookbook (giveaway)

The kettle is on and the table is set. It’s finally time to share with you a project I’ve been working on for a little over two years.

I’ve filled notebooks with scribbles and lists, developed hundreds of recipes, and picked the best ones to test and include. I’ve proofed many drafts of the manuscript and styled food for hundreds of photographs.

I’ve been anticipating this day for a very long time: the moment when The Simple Bites Kitchen launches into the world and you all are invited to join me in my kitchen.

Friends, today is the day! Keep reading to learn more about my new cookbook and upcoming book tour. I’m also sharing a seasonal recipe from the book – Apple Almond Galette – and giving away five copies to you[Read more…]

From homestead to seashore: an update

Five months ago we drove north from Montreal and took a right at Rivière-du-Loup. Highway 2 took us deep into the Maritimes, through Moncton, and then on south toward Halifax.

It was a long trek for a holiday weekend, but the trip was not merely for pleasure – we don’t love road tripping quite that much; twelve hours is a heck of a drive just to see the ocean. And even though the crocuses were bursting through the ground along the banks of Sullivan’s Pond, we did not drive to Dartmouth in search of spring, either.

Our travels had brought us to Canada’s ocean playground on a different sort of Easter hunt: a real estate search. We were acting on a dream. Taking the first step – actual physical steps – to turn hopes and plans into reality.

This time of the year…

Ah, springtime, the awakening season. When all green life shakes off the dream of winter and reemerges in slow splendour.

This time of the year brings about such a surplus of new topics that I have a difficult time narrowing my focus. My mind wants to goes in every direction, like the seeds on a blown dandelion puff, chasing passions of mine like gardening, entertaining, camping, canning, cocktails, seasonal ingredients and more.

This week, May comes to a close and June begins. So where do I start on today’s blank WordPress page?

Do I tell you about that double batch of ramps that I pickled the day before leaving for London? Or the rhubarb syrup I am currently straining for jelly? We could talk about preserving the season. Oh, we could just talk about pickling and have plenty of fodder for dicscussion: pickled strawberries, pickled green beans, pickled asparagus or just plain garlic pickles.

Simple Bites partnerships for 2017

When it comes to my career, I wear many hats, both online and off.

My friend Kerrie calls herself a “food creative”, and I like that title. I steal it from time to time, when I want to give a short answer to the question “So what do you do, Aimée?”. I always identify as a creative; I don’t have a natural business sense, but I make it work.

First and foremost, I’m a recipe developer and professional blogger. I also am a food stylist, photographer and cookbook author. The titles keep on coming: freelancer writer, brand ambassador, content developer and that big one, influencer.

You don’t need to understand the aforementioned terms at all (trust me, it’s pretty boring), but maybe this post will give you a better idea of what I do, aside from the day-to-day mummy/household stuff.
